Flexible Endoscopes
Flexible endoscopy is a reliable, minimally invasive technique for diagnosing
and treating gastrointestinal problems such as stomach pain, reflux, GERD,
ulcers, gastritis, difficulty swallowing, digestive tract bleeding, bowel
habits, and polyps. Flexible endoscopes are complex medical instruments that
are easily damaged. To maintain the flexible endoscope in optimum working condition,
the user must have a thorough understanding of its structure and function.
Gastrointestinal Endoscopes
A Gastrointestinal
endoscope is a flexible tube with a camera and light that allows a
doctor to see the inside of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Doctors use
endoscopes to diagnose and treat conditions in the esophagus, stomach, small
intestine, and more. Gastrointestinal endoscopy is an endoscopic procedure that
allows physicians to examine the digestive system by inserting a long,
flexible, lighted instrument called an endoscope either through the rectum or
down through the throat.
Ureteroscope
Ureteroscopy is a procedure that uses a ureteroscope to look
inside the ureters and kidneys. Like a cystoscope, a ureteroscope has an
eyepiece at one end, a rigid or flexible tube in the middle, and a tiny lens
and light at the other end of the tube. However, a ureteroscope is longer and
thinner than a cystoscope so that the urologist can see detailed images of the
lining of the ureters and kidneys. A ureteroscope is a thin, tube-shaped
instrument with a lens and light used to examine the inside of the ureter and
kidney.
